What Do
I Get for My Dues?
First and foremost, the local association
exists to promote the real estate industry and
provide cost-effective services to its members
that will enable them to succeed in the business
of listing and selling real estate. The three-way
agreement between the local, state and national
associations provides you with these basic services
to promote your career and the real estate industry:
Legislative advocacy
- coordination of legislative and regulatory policy
issues at all levels, calls to action to affect
legislation, discussions with legislators to help
shape policy, etc. As the largest trade association
in the nation, the impact is extraordinary. At
the state level, your advocates kept your commissions
from being taxed, to mention one benefit! Brokers
have access to the MAR legal hotline, to answer
broker questions and inform you of changes in
Commerce regulations; NAR participation in legal
cases of significance to the real estate profession.
Public advocacy
- providing a voice for the industry to inform
and influence. Local community involvement projects
help enhance the REALTOR® image and show a
commitment to equal housing opportunities, safe
city environments, and thriving neighborhoods.
Ethics - enforcement
of the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice
which separate REALTORS® from other real estate
service providers. The statewide system allows
for fair hearings and unbiased peer judgment.
Mediation services help with commission disputes.
The NAR requirement to attend an ethics class
once every four years supports the nation-wide
belief in the principles of the Code, and raises
professional standards under which all members
do business.
This single issue separates all REALTORS®
from other licensees.
Communication vehicles
- all keep you informed and up-to-date on what’s
happening in your profession. We attempt to reach
all members via weekly bulletin, monthly newsletter,
e-mail, websites, and member networking events.
Trademark protection
- ensures the appropriate use and legal safeguards
of the term REALTOR®, logo, and other association
trademarks.
Promotion - programs
promote to the general public the use of the valuable
services REALTORS® provide. Local, state and
national efforts support a positive image.
Governance and administration
- professional staff at all levels to provide
policy and direction, listen to member concerns,
and implement strategic plan decisions.
Networking opportunities
- association activities, meetings, events, and
conventions provide opportunities to meet and
exchange ideas with other professionals. Education
courses keep you up to date with industry changes
and technology.
