The Southeast Minnesota
Association of REALTORS® is the largest
professional trade association outside the Twin
Cities Metro area in the state of Minnesota,
with over 1,100 REALTOR® members. This association
serves members in ten+ counties as the result
of several mergers in 1998, 2000 and 2004. The
counties served include: Dodge County, Fillmore
County, Freeborn County, Houston County, Mower
County, Olmsted County, Steele County, Wabasha
County, Waseca County, Winona County, and including
the part of Lake City that goes into Goodhue
County.
The participants’
original organizations were:
Rochester Area Association of REALTORS®
(established in 1961),
Southeastern Minnesota Board of REALTORS®
(Winona) (established in 1975),
South Central Association of REALTORS® (Owatonna)
(established in 1981),
Albert Lea Board of REALTORS® (established
in 1967), and the Austin Board of REALTORS®
(established in 1975).
In June 2004 the
Association moved to its present location at
3400 East River Road NE in Rochester. A staff
of four manages the association at this location,
and one staff person has an office in Owatonna.
REALTORS® are
real estate professionals (real estate agents,
brokers, and licensed or certified appraisers)
who belong to the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®,
the Voice for Real Estate®, and subscribe
to a strict Code of Ethics in their business
conduct. NAR is the world’s largest professional
trade association with over 1.1 million members.
The term REALTOR®
is a registered collective membership mark and
may be used only by members of NAR. The term
does not represent what these members do for
a living, since members may be specialists in
many fields within the real estate industry:
brokerage, property management, residential
sales, appraisal, commercial/industrial, international
real estate, land development, auctioneer, etc.
The term means “member” of the parent
organization, the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®.
Over 225 other
members of the local association, Southeast
Minnesota Association of REALTORS®, are
called Affiliate Members. These members work
in industries related to real estate, and provide
products or services to real estate professionals
and/or consumers. Some types of Affiliate businesses
include: mortgage companies, title companies,
attorneys, appraisers, home inspectors, media
and technology providers, banks and credit unions.
